Top seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski effortlessly made their wait into the semifinals at the Estoril Open on Friday, needing just 50 minutes to defeat Tomas Cibulec and Jordan Kerr.
The Poles, who improved to an 11-10 season record, converted on five of six break chances to secure the 6-2, 6-1 victory and advance to the semifinals for the third time this year (Sydney, Buenos Aires).
They will attempt to reach their first final of the season when they take on Brazilians Marcelo Melo and Andre Sa, who defeated Portuguese wild cards Gastao Elias and Pedro Sousa 7-5, 6-3. In 2006, Fyrstenberg and Matkowski reached the title match on six occasions, capturing the clay court title in Bucharest.
The South African-Dutch duo of Jeff Coetzee and Rogier Wassen also advanced to the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Albert Montanes and Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo. The Spaniards had made ATP history just a day earlier by defeating second seeds Simon Aspelin and Frantisek Cermak in the longest Match Tie-break since the inception of the new doubles format, 23-21.
Coetzee and Wassen combined to win the Auckland title in January and reached the Delray Beach semifinals the following month.
