Top seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski and No. 2 seeds Lukas Dlouhy and Pavel Vizner won through to the quarterfinals of the Estoril Open on Wednesday.
Polish duo Fyrstenberg and Matkowski beat Carlos Berlocq and Yeu-Tzuoo Wang 6-4, 6-3 in 60 minutes.
The pair, currently ranked No. 5 in the Stanford ATP Doubles Race, will now take on Russian duo Marat Safin and Dmitry Tursunov. Tursunov is writing a daily blog on the ATPtennis.com web site this week.
In the opposite half of the draw, Czechs Dlouhy and Vizner swept past Portuguese wild card Frederico Gil and Goncalo Nicau 6-3, 6-2 in 53 minutes.
In 2006 Dlouhy/Vizner won the title in Costa do Sauipe (d. Fyrstenberg/ Matkowski) and reached the final at Valencia (l. Skoch/Zib).
Dlouhy and Vizner will next challenge Leonardo Azzaro and Juan Antonio Marin, following the Italian-Costa Rican 6-4, 6-1 win over Razvan Sabau and Vince Spadea.
Also advancing to the quarterfinals were Marcaccio/Saretta, 6-4, 6-3 winners over Garcia/Sluiter and wild cards Marques/Tavares, who downed Gimelstob/Portas 5-7, 6-2, 10-3 (Match TB).
In the women's competition, Gisela Dulko and Maria Sanchez Lorenzo knocked out top seeds Zi Yan and Jie Zheng 6-2, 6-1 for a place in the semifinals.
Joining them are German-Russian pair Sandra Kloesel and Anastassia Rodionova, who defeated Conchita Martinez Granados and Maria Vento-Kabchi 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Earlier, Martinez Granados and Maria Vento-Kabchi had completed their first round match against Bethanie Mattek and Bryanne Stewart carried over from Tuesday night due to bad light.
Qualifiers Neha and Shikha Uberoi won through to the quarterfinals with a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory over Natalie Grandin and Barbara Schwartz in two hours and seven minutes.
They will next play Eleni Daniilidou and Jasmin Woehr.
