ATP stars Rainer Schuettler and Raemon Sluiter swapped their
racquets for golf clubs during the opening day of the Estoril
Open. Schuettler, the No.2 seed, joined Sluiter at the Quinta
da Marinha Golf Course, hitting some golf balls on the driving
range and the putting green.
"It was fun, I've only played twice before," said
Schuettler. "I don't think I'm very talented, I have to
work on everything. I like golf courses, to go there for dinner,
but maybe not to play
If you go with a cart it's okay
but to walk
"
Despite the enjoyment, Schuettler was not prepared to give up
the day job. "Every other player on the ATP circuit plays
so it would be tough competition if I started. But I'm not sure
it'll be a second hobby for me."
Sluiter added: "I've probably hit a combined of 40 balls
earlier in my life. It's fun but it's tough.
Maybe golf is something I'll pick up after my tennis career."
One of Schuettler's shots went slightly astray, going 90 degrees
parallel to the driving range and hitting a reporter.
"How can you make that angle?" asked Sluiter. "I
know you can hit angles but this
Rainer the magician!"
